Lauren Kiemele - B.S.

Lauren Kiemele earned her B.S. degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder with degrees in Mathamatics and Chemistry. During this time Ms. Kiemele worked on the synthesis of organometallic complexes in the labs of John Hagadorn and Douglas Gin. Ms. Kiemele is responsible for MS analysis including liquid chromatography, sample cleanup and spotting for MALDI analysis, instrument validation, running of peptide digests and protein samples by ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry, data management, and analysis.
Kirk Hansen - Ph.D.

Dr. Hansen serves as the Facility Manager. Dr. Hansen was recently recruited to UCHSC from the University of California at San Francisco's; NIH supported National Biomolecular Resource Facility. Dr. Hansen has extensive experience in the identification and characterization of low-level peptide and protein samples. He has optimized and evaluated differential expression strategies for the characterization of complex protein mixtures from mammalian tissue and cell-lines, with emphasis on the liver and lung. He assumes primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Core, including 1) data generation, 2) training and supervision of technical staff, 3) consultation with Center investigators and laboratory staff, and 4) maintenance of Core records and data. He has 10 years of experience in mass spectrometry.

Ashley Zurawel - B.S.

Ashley Zurawel earned her B.Sc. from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where she studied Microbiology and Immunology and English Literature.  As an undergraduate, she was a Summer Student Research Fellow at The University of Colorado Cancer Center and worked at the McGill AIDS Center, where she studied RNA binding proteins. Ms. Zurawel is the project coordinator for our collaboration with the trauma group directed by Dr. Ernst Moore.
Mark Duncan - Ph.D.

Dr. Duncan is Director of the Proteomics Core. He provides long-term management, consults with UCCC members on the design, implementation and analysis of proteomic experiments and communicates with the CC management and users. On his arrival at UCHSC, mid 1999, he was appointed Director of the Protein Microchemistry Core, and co-director of the Pharmacology Core. Dr. Duncan has been responsible for establishing the Pharmacology Core and transitioning the Protein Microchemistry Core to the Proteomics Core. (In 2004 he resigned as director of the Pharmacology Core and is now solely responsible for the Proteomics Core.) Since appointment his activities have involved the training of students and staff, acquisition of capital equipment and design of the new facilities.
